Lubrication Basic Concept
What Is Lubrication?
During lubrication, lubricant enters into the surfaces of moving friction points and forms an oil film. In centralized lubrication systems, lubricators provide a fixed amount of lubricant to distributors which measure and feed it to lubrication points. Centralized lubrication systems reduce friction and abrasion, cool, prevent corrosion, decrease vibration, and forms a seal.
Lubrication Purpose:
Reduces resistance – Reduces wear and tear – Cools – Prevents rust – Protects the environment – Seals – Reduces vibration – Cleans
Lubrication System Components:
The lubrication system includes four groups of parts:
1. Lubricator—provides needed lubricant.
2. Distributor unit—distributes lubricant to lube points.
3. Accessories—adapters, tubing (or hose), junctions.
4. Controller—consists of electric controller, pressure switch, level switch; monitors lubricator operating cycle, system pressure and oil level.
